Born in 1969 in Morristown, New Jersey was a cult legend, with a common form of dwarfism called as ‘Achnodroplasia,’ Peter Dinklage has left no stone unturned during his entire acting career. Most of you must know him as Tyrion Lannister who is speculated to be the one of the last Targeryans, and the promised prince, from widely cherished fantasy epic-turned-primetime TV show, ‘Game of thrones’.
Apart from being the star of GoT, Peter has received wide critical acclamation for his performances in various roles. Well, of course the journey wasn’t easy, but as he describes it, it was worth it.
“Dinklage was destined to become an actor.” – Critics.
He first starred in ‘The Velveteen Rabbit,’ a stage production and he was only in grade 5. It goes without saying, the audience loved him and he said in an interview with People magazine, “It feels incredible to take the first solo bow.”
“As an adolescent not only was I bitter and angry, but I had these walls put up.”
Dinklage shared this statement with MSNBC while explaining the difficulties he faced when he was young. The similar kind of pain can be seen in the episodes of Game of Thrones.
On his struggle of being dwarf, he says and quote,
“I am guilty of far more monstrous crime- I am guilty of being a dwarf!”
It will be no shock knowing that Peter Dinklage was exploited in his early days, owing to his dwarfism. But again, as Tyrion says, “I drink and I know things.” Peter too, knew better than to let himself drown in that vortex. As much as it was hurtful and embarrassing for a man like Peter to struggle his way through the stardom, Dinklage had faith in himself that he’ll reach on the peak of the mountain, and he did it eventually.
It was in 1995, when Peter’s performance in a parody of an independent movie, ‘World living in oblivion’ was appreciated globally and that was the making of an award winning artist. Since then he has never looked back. Roles and offers came pouring upon him, and he had started in blockbusters like Life as We Know It, The Station Agent and who doesn’t love to hate him as Bolibar Trask in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
His latest show has broken all the boundaries of fandom, for people just adore the character of the witty and drunk dwarf. An interesting fact to note is, while the auditions were going on for different roles for GoT’s characters, only one man was considered for Tyrion’s role, and no other actor auditioned. Isn’t he nailing it? Another fact about the actor is that he is a vegan, and all the meat and and chicken shown in the show is made of vegetarian products only.
As a matter of fact, George R. R. Martin, the author of Game of thrones, who is known for killing his characters in the cold blood, has admitted that Tyrion Lannister is his favorite character indeed. While everyone is waiting for the latest episode of Game of thrones, “No one,” let’s wish the man a great and wonderful year ahead.
